iPhone Won't Sync with Mac — Common Fixes
Sync issues between iPhone and Mac look mysterious but usually have boring, fixable causes.

If an iPhone won't sync with a Mac, update macOS and iOS, use a known-good Apple cable, try a different USB port directly on the Mac rather than a hub, unlock the phone and tap Trust, then open Finder and check the device's sync settings. Restarting both devices resolves a surprising share of cases.
First, make sure both devices are running current software. A Mac on macOS Ventura trying to sync an iPhone on iOS 18 is a recipe for failure. Update both.
Plug the iPhone in with a Lightning or USB-C cable that you know carries data. Many cheap cables only carry power. Trust the computer when prompted on the iPhone, and unlock with passcode.
Open Finder. Your iPhone should appear in the sidebar under Locations. If it doesn't, check Finder's sidebar settings to make sure CDs, DVDs, and iOS Devices is enabled.
If it still won't show, reset Location and Privacy on the iPhone, restart both devices, and try a different USB port — preferably one directly on the Mac, not through a hub. If none of that works, give me a call. I troubleshoot these in person and usually find the issue inside 15 minutes.
